Multicultural Day 2025 on 31 May - A Celebration of Inheritance and Exchange

The Australia Macau General Commercial Chamber, together with the Lions Club of Macau and the Lions Club of Melbourne Chinese, was proud to host the Multicultural Day 2025 at the Chinese Museum in Melbourne’s Chinatown. More than a thousand visitors joined us to experience an event that combined history, art, community, and cuisine in celebration of Macanese culture.

From the Macau Handover Photo Exhibition in partnership with universities such as Macau University of Science and Technology and RMIT, to the Peace Poster Design Exhibition and Children’s Environmental Painting Competition, the festival reflected on history, peace, and sustainability. Warming the occasion, the Melbourne University Macau Students’ Association prepared Portuguese egg tarts, Serradura, 400 times whipped coffee, and pork chop buns, offering an authentic taste of Macau to the public. The festival also featured a Mahjong experience, where participants from diverse cultural backgrounds were introduced and learned how to play the game. This interactive activity offered entertainment and an unique way to connect with Macanese and Chinese cultural traditions.

The presence of the Chinese Consul General in Melbourne and Justice of Peace, who received commemorative certificates, further highlighted the importance of cultural exchange and community ties.

As our President reflected, this third year of the event focused on the theme of inheritance - not only of form, but of spirit, intention, and values. Culture is not a zero-sum game, but a process of exchange through which we learn from others and rediscover pride in our roots. The unique fusion of Chinese and Portuguese traditions within Macanese culture is a living testament to this idea.

We thank all our partners, participants, and volunteers who made this event possible. This journey from rhythm to reflection has shown once again that our community is strongest when we come together - this place is so beautiful because you are here.
